Yes, Bitcoin Mining prices cash and the expansion of electrical energy prices make sense. But, this is not solely a nasty factor.

  1. This is a good thing, it will push more countries forward into using more Clean Energy! I think its very good! And it's a reminder to everyone to start switching to a more clean source of energy. And I believe they are a few clean mining farms out there.

  2. I'm not a climate change or global warming alarmist. I believe the jury is still out on this one (maybe its the sun's own cycles). However, mining and consuming so much electricity really seems somewhat pointless. I understand its purposes (transactions, maintaining the network, new coin generation, etc.) but, if it were for super computing, calculations to move humanity forward and had more altruistic purposes then I would be all for those consumption levels. Another point and here is where we really might differ, what about currencies that don't require these high consumption levels? Setting aside the function, the FUD & FOMO of "said" coin/token, think only of the ability to create a decentralized currency for both payment processing, unbanking the banked, as well as a store-of-value benefit… doesn't a coin that we all embraced that didn't have mining make more sense to avoid ridiculous power consumption amounts? Furthermore, as the world continues to embrace i.e. Bitcoin, doesn't these power consumption levels present just another scaling issue? Thoughts?

What coins out there don't require mining? IOTA, Raiblocks, Bytecoin??? Not sure?

  3. Yes, Bitcoin Mining costs money and the growth of electricity costs make sense. But, this isn't entirely a bad thing.
